The first shared service to work across the N3 JANET Gateway is the support for IP based (h.323 protocol) videoconferencing so that HE sites can videoconference with NHS sites e.g. for teaching and meetings. This is through a bridge across the N3 JANET Gateway managed by the JANET Videoconferencing Service (JVCS) This remains an “early adopter service” and has so far gone live with the following NHS Trusts as part of the CETL4HealthNE project:
Other NHS Trusts can apply to use this early adopter service although numbers are limited for this phase. Please contact Malcolm.Teague@ja.net for more details if interested.
In England there is a new N3 videoconferencing service and JANET(UK) and Department of Health are investigating the possibility of an interface between this new N3 vc service and JVCS across the N3 JANET Gateway.
In Scotland NHS National Services Scotland are piloting a Master Gatekeeper approach as described at the Scotland NHS-HE Forum on 8th June 2010. It is also being investigated whether this could interface with JVCS.
Tests are also planned to see whether the N3 JANET Gateway can already support IOCOM/Access Grid videoconferences across the N3 JANET Gateway.
