N3 JANET Gateway Early Adopter

The Early Adopter N3 JANET Gateway was in place between November 2007 and June 2010 when it was superceded by the Resilient N3 JANET Gateway Service
Sessions Initiated in N3
The early adopters included:
- University of Newcastle in conjunction with their Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) partners in the North East of England (CETL4HealthNE). The Gateway enabled viewing of their Lectopia lecture archive and presentation system in the NHS and they are the first NHS users of the JANET Videoconferencing system via N3 (see below)
- University of Bristol working with the University of West of England and the NHS Clinical Academies in Avon, Gloucestershire, Somerset and Wiltshire (described further here). They accessed University systems from some Clinical Academy sites via the Gateway and also use the e/pop web videoconferencing system.
- University of Birmingham’s Primary Care Clinical Services research group in particular the work in systems in primary care clinical trials (see http://www.nhs-he.org.uk/taweel-may06.pdf for background). GPs could record data through the Gateway on the University’s secure servers and portal. This could include including patient identifiable data as the project has research ethics approval.
- Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute to allow responsive access by NHS clinicians to record chromosomal anomalies on the DECIPHER database
- University of Edinburgh and access to virtual learning environment and library proxy server services from NHS Lothian and other NHS sites.
- University of York providing access from N3 sites to their interactive website as part of the Improved Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme, developed with the Department of Health
- University of Salford to improve access to virtual learning resources for students of nursing and professions allied to medicine when on clinical placement in the NHS.
These applications continue to be supported by the Resilient N3 JANET Gateway Service.
